Traditional Songs



Every society has its own traditions and customs, which are differ sometimes from an area to another in the same country. Muscat province has unique traditions that some of them are still practiced while others are not like:



Al Musaharati

During Ramadan a person tour the lanes of the quarter before dawn playing drums to awake the people and telling them it was time to have their late meal and saying words like (Wake up sleepers to have food).



Hawl hawl

It is a tradition still exists and practiced when an infant completes one year after birth, his family and relatives hold a celebration and the newly born to be dressed in green clothes. Pop corn and Omani Halwa to be distributed on the guests.



Karankashwa

In the mid of Ramadan the children take two stones after the Maghrib prayers and then come out in groups hitting the two stones together while singing (Karankashwa Ya Nas (people) .. give us some sweets .. take your money from your wallet.. it is not easy but take your money from the box you are hiding in) so they pass with the houses and the people give them sweets or some money.



Tyminia

In the past schools were not modern like today's but there were small schools for teaching the Holy Qura'an and reach child accomplishes learning the quaranic verses by heart a celebration should be organized to honor him. All students would come and join the teacher at school and one of them to read this Tyminia, which is contains prayers to thank Allah and the audience to repeat the word (Amen). Then they accompany him sto his colleague houses and have coffee in each house and at the end they go to the house of the honored student and have lunch meal there.



AI Hajla

It is a place looks like I room where the bride groom celebrates in before wedding. The place decorated with colored fabric, silver ornaments and glass mirrors and different pictures. This tradition is practiced in Muscat province and it is still exists.
