Extracts about tourism from Address by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to the students of Sultan Qaboos University (2/5/2000)

"now we can say that we have begun to open up scope for investment and we have begun to invest. And we are attracting some investment from abroad. We have begun to open up to
tourism in a rational, realistic and carefully considered manner. We certainly do not encourage tourism in its general unrestricted sense.

Tourism has a positive side and a negative side and we are concentrating on the positive side. We thank God that there are many positive aspects and they have started to produce beneficial results which, God willing, will have a positive impact in providing employment for our sons and daughters (and our daughters and sons) in the hotel sector and a wide range of other sectors."

Extracts about tourism from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Speech Before The Opening of The Annual Session of The Council of Oman (12/10/2004 )

"We have a strong belief in the importance of the tourism sector, since it is an emerging industry at international level where it has become one of the main sources of revenue in many developed countries. And because God has bestowed our country with an environment and geographical diversity, as well as other essential elements, that makes it a favourable tourist destination in the region, we took the decision to establish a Ministry of Tourism to administer this vital and important
sector. We hope that those who are in charge of its work will take the appropriate steps to expedite the implementation of the carefully studied procedures and steps which are necessary to develop this sector in the near future, God willing. This should be achieved through coordination with the other concerned government departments and private sector"
